The Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand will be delivering a public apology for Survivors of abuse in Presbyterian Church care. Members of the Survivor Experiences Service Board have been involved in advising on the apology, redress and creating the artwork for the event.
The apology will be delivered at two public events.
The first in-person event will be held in Dunedin at 12pm, Saturday 27 September, at Otago Museum.
The second will be in Auckland at 10am, Saturday 4 October at Due Drop Events Centre.
Wellbeing support services will be in attendance.
Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand, Right Rev Rose Luxford, will deliver the apology. Convenor of the Council of Assembly, Katerina Solomona, will further speak on the Church’s commitment to its new survivor-designed Puretumu Torowhanui (holistic) redress process.
These events will also be video recorded and uploaded onto the Presbyterian Church website. A Te Reo Māori and an NZ Sign Language version of the apology will be available.
