The Survivor Experiences Service aims to support Pacific survivors in healing (the vā) and allowing you to self-determine what restoring this balance looks like.
We understand through the Royal Commission’s work that Pacific survivors felt disconnection from their culture and family, and multiple layers of violation while in care (or loss of the vā) being abused and neglected in care.
We incorporate Pasifika values to guide survivors to healing. We do this by drawing on models and frameworks that recognise the holistic nature of the Pacific worldview and key Pacific concepts such as:
- Fonofale model – Moana& Samoan (Fuimaono K Pulotu-Endemann)
- Fonua Ola model – Moana& Tongan (Sione Tu'itahi)
- Kakala model – Tongan (Konai Helu-Thaman)
- Fa'afaletui model – Samoan model (Carmel Peteru & Kiwi Tamasese)
- Ta and Va – Tongan model ('Dr.Okusitino Mahina)
- Te Vaka Atafaga – A Tokelauan assessment model (Kupa Kupa)
- Tivaevae model – A Cook Islands Māori model (Teremoana Maua-Hodges)
The Service is confidential, non-judgmental and you can remain anonymous if you wish.
